TACOMA, WA – On Tuesday morning, a four-vehicle pileup involving suspected street racers on Interstate 5 resulted in several injuries and significant delays reports KING 5.
The initial crash took place close to 1 a.m. on Interstate 5 near South 56th Street and involved three cars that had collided in an unknown order. The fourth vehicle involved in the incident was a motorcycle carrying two people that struck one of the cars.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old man, was seriously injured, as was a 32-year-old female rider.
Injuries are reported for a 19-year-old male who had been driving one of the cars, though his condition was not stated.
One driver fled the scene, leaving behind a vehicle that had been reported as stolen.
Crews worked for nearly seven hours to clear the scene enough to resume normal traffic.
Charges of vehicular assault are being considered for the drivers involved.
